About Me
I have lived in Texas for 27 years and for 15 years in the HEB area. I have two grown children and 5 grandchildren(4 of whom are in the HEB ISD School District). I am married to my husband Anthony and we have two fur babies Siberian Huskies, Storm and Ellie.
For over 40 years, I have had the opportunity to provide education to students and adults in various forms. I have been in the classroom and the dojo. At age 15, I began teaching martial arts and specialized in teaching women and children as a 2nd Degree Black Belt in Shotokan karate. I specialized in Special Education and high school students as a Substitute Teacher for Pomona Unified School District (Pomona, CA) and Mineral Wells and Fort Worth ISD’s.
My education background is in Communications/Public Relations in which I earned a Bachelor’s of Science from California State Polytechnic University. I also attended graduate school from John F. Kennedy University in psychology.
With my educational and professional experiences, I know the importance and value of creating safe and diverse spaces. I have seen students thrive when their needs are heard and prioritized both mentally and physically. Working with special education students requires an equitable distribution of resources including my time as an educator to aid them in experiencing the highest quality of education.
Through this work and my passion, I know how essential it is to be a life-long learner. I continued my own development by becoming a certified Diversity Trainer from the National Multicultural Institute in Washington D.C and a Master Certified Life Coach specializing in stress management and reduction.
Outside of education, I have had the privilege of serving in several roles. I come from a long line of family who have served in the Navy, which led me to join as a Yeoman in the Navy Reserves.
My commitment to women and the empowerment of all women led me to become a member of Women of Visionary Influence, WOVI Inc and on the Management council and Board. I currently serve as the 1st Vice President of the WOVI Arlington Mid-Cities Chapter.
Serving in leadership roles provided me with the importance of continuing my own leadership development rooted in community. I graduated from Leadership Fort Worth.
I am excited to continue this important work by serving on the School Board at HEB ISD!
